WHAT IT IS

The practice layer of appearance: hair kept deliberately, facial hair maintained on a schedule, skin and nails handled, clothes that fit. The part of looking better that requires no biology at all — only a standard, applied repeatedly.

HOW IT WORKS

There is no molecular pathway here and we will not invent one. The mechanism is perception: humans read consistent grooming as competence, discipline, and status within seconds, and the effect renews every time someone sees you. It compounds like training does — through repetition, not intensity.

WHERE THE EVIDENCE STANDS

Nobody has run a randomized trial on haircuts, and this index does not pretend otherwise. Social-perception research points the obvious direction, but by our own rubric — no human interventional evidence — the grade is INSUFFICIENT. We publish it anyway, because the rubric measures evidence, and some true things are simply untested. This entry is what that honesty looks like.

REGULATORY STATUS

Not a regulated productA practice, not a product. Nothing here is regulated except the razor.

WHO THIS IS FOR

  • People optimizing compounds while overdue for a haircut
  • Anyone who wants the fastest visible change available this week

WHAT PEOPLE GET WRONG

Grooming is cosmetic in the dismissive sense — surface, therefore trivial.
It is the highest-leverage appearance intervention per unit of effort, available immediately, at any fitness level, with zero biology required.
An INSUFFICIENT grade means STAXXX thinks it does not work.
It means no one has tested it in a way our rubric can score. The grade measures evidence, not truth. Read the summary; we are explicit about the difference.

WHAT WE CLAIM

  • A repeatable maintenance schedule requiring minutes per day.

Structure and use, not an effect claim

QUESTIONS

Why is something obviously effective graded INSUFFICIENT?
Because the grade is computed from published human evidence and there is none of the kind our rubric scores. We would rather show you an honest rubric with an unflattering result than bend the rubric when it is inconvenient. That is the whole point of the index.
Where should someone start?
A barber you visit on a schedule rather than a mood, a razor you maintain, and one skincare step you will actually repeat. Consistency first; sophistication later.
